Dads, when it comes to leading spiritual times with your kids, you should:
– Teach them the Gospel
– Teach them hymns
– Read to them from the Bible
– Go over the papers they’ve gotten from Sunday School
– Pray with them
– Read them children’s Bibles
– Bless them
– Memorize scripture
– Read to them missionary biographies
– Talk about missionaries you are supporting
– Teach them the Gospel
What, you say you couldn’t possibly do all of those things every day? Well, then you are a bad dad*.
Okay, I just looked at my notes and it turns out that wasn’t what I was going to say.
What I was going to say that is that not being able to do all of the things on this list means you are normal. So if you are doing none of these things, start doing one of them. If you are doing one of them, try doing two of them. And then three and four. . .
If it’s been a while since you’ve done one of these things (or you’ve never done it), try doing it.
Be creatively consistent.
What did I leave off my list?
* Egad.
You sing it to your kids once in a while, correct?
Try this idea from my wife (who says she got it from somewhere else):
When you get to the ee – i – ee – i – oh part, change it to A – E – I – O – U.
Then with almost no effort on your part (or their’s) you will have taught them the vowels, in order.
This will be valuable when it’s time for them to learn to read.

(As I mentioned last year at my other blog.)
Dads, this weekend, instead of changing your clocks forward on Saturday night (or Sunday morning), change them on Friday night. That way you’ll avoid the pain of losing an hour Saturday night or Sunday Morning.
HT: My wife.
Generally speaking for a family of, say, three or more kids, ordering from the Children’s Menu is not the best value.
Split up adult menu items.
Dads, you know that truism that when wives tell you about difficulties they aren’t looking for how to solve it, they just want you to listen?
This may be especially true when they call you at work, bothered with the way their day is going. Just listen.
Don’t say “Well what can I do about it now?”
Just listen.
(In agreement with Abraham)
Dads, resist the temptation to buy that bigger TV and consider not replacing your current box when it dies.
Dads, do you have couch time with your wife? Just the two of you talking about your day, or about what’s happening tomorrow? You should. Several times a week.
In any case, if you do this at the end of the day, which my wife and I do, here’s my suggestion. Do it all the way at the end of the day. And by that I mean put your pajamas on, open up your bed, and if you have straightening and other things you’re going to do, do them.
That way, when you sit down with your wife, you can have the blessed feeling that everything else is done, and now it’s just you and her.
Dads, it’s your job, during these cold January nights, to make sure your kids are warm in bed. Tell them: “I don’t every want any of you to be cold in the middle of the night. Let us know. We’ll get you another quilt.”
They might not know this.
The challenge of course are the babies, who don’t stay under blankets. But you know ways to keep her warm, too.
It is pleasurable to check in on a child at midnight when it is 15 below zero and know that they are warm and comfy under all that weight of down and quilting.
Dads, do want a free CD of the newest Bible verse songs that our team had been recording for the last 3 months? Do you live in the Twin Cities?
Then come to Bethlehem’s Fighter Verse Kick Off tomorrow night!
You also hear representatives from several children’s choirs singing most of Psalm 139 and two accapella songs from our quartet. And much much more.
Since the songs aren’t all ready, they won’t be purchasable for awhile, so this (and next Sunday) is the only opportunity to get the CD right now.
