Yes for nursing, generally no for pregnant.

Generally no. Yes if they are underweight, no otherwise. Many mothers are already overweight when they get pregnant. Consider baby goes from 0-3 kg in 9 months. Rest of weight is manly fluid.
But considering how much babies grow post-natally mum’s certainly need energy to produce all that milk.
