Dads, one way to live out the gospel with your children is to be willing to apologize when you’ve sinned against them. At the very least, this shows them that you know you aren’t perfect.

One of the most helpful sermons our pastor ever preached years ago when our kids were small was on parenting where he mentioned this very thing. I don’t think we can underestimate the power of a heartfelt sorry to our kids when we mess up (as we so often do!). It’s one of those little acts of humbling ourselves (humility being the consummate expression of godly and genuine love) that has the power to undo whatever mischief the evil one is trying to work through our sins. In ancient Christian tradition, it is taught humility is the quality of the soul the demons most dread to confront because they completely lose their power over us when it is present.

Yes, humility is extremely important in parenting. Thanks for your comments. And yes, I can imagine that the demons hate to see humility in people.
