An Average Family’s Gas Prices

8 11 2010

Update:  Welcome Challies People!  Care to subscribe? You know how.

As I’ve noted before, I like to keep track of things. Several years ago I started logging all of our family’s gas purchases. I’m pretty sure I’m the first person to ever think of doing that. In the history of the world.

In any case, I thought you might be interested in seeing the cost per gallon for a typical family living. We live in the Northern Suburbs of the Twin Cities of Minnesota. This for the past five years (starting Nov 2005).

And if you want to see the Excel File Behind The Data . . .

So . . . do you remember those beautiful days in the fall of 2008?

Should get monthly inflation data and inflation adjust the prices over that period. Might be interesting.

Also, it would be better to expand the vertical scale all the way to zero. That would enable a more realistic comparison of the data.

Wow, I wish I lived in the US of A! If my reading of your chart is correct, the current price is about $2.90 per gallon, right? That’s about £1.80 in British Pounds Sterling. Well, the current price at the pumps here in South East England where I live, for unleaded petrol (gas), is £5.45 per gallon, i.e. $8.80 – three times as much as you’re paying. Even the peak price shown on your chart ($4) was less than half of that! So please don’t be tempted to moan and complain – you don’t realise how good you’ve got it!!!

Every blessing,
Adrian

Buddyglass – where would I get the inflation data?

Martin – That probably would have been a good idea.

Adrian – Trust me, I don’t moan and complain about gas prices. My condolences for yours.
